Mid-August in Aurora looks comfortable — cooler nights, easy days. The Alley Jam and the market carry the Saturday, the Cultural Centre's Fall Halls exhibitions have just opened, and the town's biggest week of the summer starts right after.

The Fall Halls shows opened Thursday the 13th, so this is the first weekend to see them. Free to visit, and an easy indoor stop if the weather turns.
With highs in the mid-20s rather than the high 20s, this is good walking and cycling weather — the Nokiidaa Trail through the Arboretum is the pick, and the splash pads are still running for the kids.
Marquee Theatrical Productions stage the hit musical for four nights. Worth booking over the weekend — a local production of a show this popular tends to sell through.
Back-to-back free nights in Town Park: the summer concert series on Wednesday, then the first Movies in the Park double-header on Thursday — Pink Paradise night, with activities from 6pm and free popcorn while it lasts.

The end of this weekend is the last quiet stretch before the ballot is set. Candidates for mayor and the six ward-councillor seats must file in person on August 21 between 9am and 2pm, with 25 endorsement signatures and a filing fee. Voting day is Monday, October 26.
